20 Years Ago… A Dream That’s Finally Becoming Reality
Twenty years ago, I had a senior friend who told me a story about riding a motorcycle from Thailand to China.
“Thailand – Laos – Dali – Lijiang – Shangri-La.”
He told me it was a once-in-a-lifetime journey, one that you simply had to experience.
That conversation after a meal became a memory I’ve never forgotten. It also marked the beginning of a dream that seemed impossibly far away.
Back then, even riding a motorcycle outside Thailand felt beyond my reach. I was still riding a bike I had pieced together from old spare parts. All I could do was explore my own country, and I had already ridden from the northernmost to the southernmost parts of Thailand.
But riding all the way to China? That seemed almost impossible.
As the years passed, the dream didn’t get any closer. If anything, it felt further away as life brought more responsibilities, obligations, and commitments.
Eventually, it became just a dream trip—something I thought I might never get the chance to do.
But today…
For once in my life, I’ve decided to let my heart lead the way, putting what I truly want ahead of hesitation and all the reasons to hold back.
A dream I’ve carried for 20 years, born from a conversation after a meal, is finally becoming reality.
And this time, I’m not stopping at Shangri-La.
I’m setting out to ride from Thailand all the way to Everest, following the route that has lived in my memory since I first heard that story two decades ago.
Thailand – Laos – Dali – Lijiang – Shangri-La – Everest.
For now, the journey has only just begun.
There’s still a long way to go, with challenging distances, extreme altitude, freezing temperatures, and thin air with much less oxygen than I’m used to.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to fly to different countries around the world to ride motorcycles, discovering incredible roads and experiences along the way.
But this journey is different.
It’s set to be the longest, highest, and one of the most challenging motorcycle adventures of my life.
More importantly, it’s a journey I’ve dreamed of since the days when I had almost nothing ready and everything still seemed out of reach.
I wish I could put into words exactly how I feel right now and help everyone see it through my eyes.
But honestly…
I’m genuinely excited.
