Getting the Most Out of the Zontes 368G: From Thailand to Everest Base Camp

Everest Base Camp

Cruise Control

Rebound Damping

(Underseat Storage)

(Parking Brake)

TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)

Everest Base Camp

Getting the Most Out of the Zontes 368G: From Thailand to Everest Base Camp

This journey has truly put the Zontes 368G to the test, allowing me to experience its full potential. MAX performance, in every sense of the word!
There are several features that I might not have fully appreciated back in Thailand, but out here, they have proven to be genuinely useful.
Normally, when people think about riding a motorcycle from Thailand to Everest Base Camp, they might assume that a manual transmission motorcycle or a larger-capacity engine is essential.
However, on this trip, we may well be among the first groups of Thai riders to tackle this route on scooters, while keeping pace with the larger motorcycles and reaching our daily destinations just as efficiently.
We cover considerable distances every day. Although 400–500 km might not sound like much, these are certainly not straightforward roads!
Most of our route consists of local roads with limited opportunities to maintain high speeds. We constantly encounter steep climbs, descents, endless corners, and severely damaged road surfaces along the way.
Many people have asked whether this scooter is capable of handling long-distance journeys like this.
Well, I can confidently say that I've put it to the test myself!

We are now eight days into the journey, with several more days still ahead. So far, the route has taken us through high-altitude mountain passes, where the air is thin, and the bike is constantly required to accelerate, overtake, and climb steep gradients.
My verdict? The bike handles it with ease!
"If the rider can handle it, the bike can too."
A full tank takes us more than 400 km. More importantly, we have even left the engine switched off in the snow, at sub-zero temperatures and an altitude of 5,100 metres. Yet, the engine still starts easily, without any difficulty or stalling at idle.
This genuinely surprised me!
I'd also like to point out that all the bikes are still running the same grade of engine oil installed at the service centre back in Thailand. We haven't even switched to special engine oil formulated for extremely cold climates.
11 Features That Have Impressed Me in Real-World Riding
1. Ride-by-Wire Throttle and Cruise Control
Throughout this journey, I've been filming content while riding. Wearing thick winter gloves makes operating the camera buttons extremely difficult. At the same time, easing off the throttle for too long can make it difficult to keep up with the group.
I frequently use Cruise Control to maintain a steady speed and give my right hand a break. On particularly cold days, being able to tuck my right hand inside my jacket for extra warmth while riding is genuinely helpful.

2. Standing Footrests
Several sections of our route have severely damaged road surfaces. Riding while seated over rough terrain exposes the body to considerable impacts and makes the motorcycle more difficult to control.
However, when I stand on the dedicated footrests, I can use my legs and body to absorb the impacts. This makes it much easier to control the bike over potholes and other obstacles.
In my opinion, this feature is absolutely essential for a journey like this.

3. Adjustable Front Suspension: Compression and Rebound
The front suspension allows adjustment of both Compression Damping and Rebound Damping.
When riding on highways or smooth roads, I can adjust the damping to suit higher-speed riding, helping the suspension feel more stable and composed.
On days when we encounter badly damaged roads, I can reduce the damping to better suit the terrain. The Rear Preload can also be adjusted to accommodate the load carried and the riding conditions.

4. Large Underseat Storage Compartment
This is one of the biggest advantages of a maxi-scooter!
On this trip, I've taken responsibility for carrying the engine oil for all the motorcycles. I've managed to store as many as 12 bottles of engine oil under the seat, along with plenty of other belongings.
On top of that, I can carry camera equipment, tripods, and other filming accessories in an additional rear luggage bag.
There's no doubt that this scooter offers an impressive amount of storage space.

5. Large Fuel Tank: More Than 400 km per Tank
We travel through numerous remote rural areas where finding a petrol station isn't always easy.
Being able to cover more than 400 km on a single tank means we don't have to worry about searching for fuel stations too frequently.
It's an incredibly convenient advantage for long-distance adventures like this.

6. Parking Brake
Many scooters don't come equipped with a dedicated parking brake. When parking on a slope and trying to prevent the motorcycle from rolling, riders often have to rely on the centre stand.
However, I'm carrying quite a lot of luggage on this trip. To be honest, there are times when I simply can't lift the fully loaded bike onto its centre stand by myself.
The Zontes 368G's Parking Brake makes a huge difference. When parking on an incline, I can engage the brake to help prevent the motorcycle from rolling.
It's an extremely practical feature, and one that I end up using almost every time I stop!

7. Engine Performance That Delivers in Real-World Conditions
Although the bike uses an automatic CVT transmission, meaning there are no gears to downshift like on a manual motorcycle when overtaking or climbing steep hills, the engine delivers more than enough performance for the job.
It provides sufficient power to overtake confidently and tackle steep gradients without hesitation.
This is particularly impressive considering that we're constantly riding at high altitudes, where oxygen levels are significantly lower.

8. Adjustable Windscreen
Back in Thailand, I honestly wanted to remove the windscreen altogether or replace it with a shorter one. Our weather is hot, and I prefer having more airflow while riding.
But after arriving here, my opinion has completely changed!
Especially when riding in sub-zero temperatures, raising the windscreen helps shield my body from the freezing wind.
Honestly, it feels like heaven!

9. TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)
The real-time tire pressure and temperature monitoring system has been particularly useful throughout this journey.
Weather conditions have been extremely unpredictable. On some days, we set off in the morning at below-freezing temperatures, only for the temperature to climb to 30°C in the afternoon before dropping below freezing again by evening.
Such dramatic temperature fluctuations also affect tire pressure.
Having tire pressure and temperature displayed on the screen at all times makes it much easier to monitor conditions and adjust tire pressures accordingly throughout the journey.

10. Braking System
The factory-installed braking system performs exceptionally well.
The brake feel is linear, delivering a natural and progressive response rather than feeling overly stiff or grabbing abruptly.
This is especially important when riding in the mountains, where the brakes are constantly in use. Both the front and rear brakes are easy to modulate, allowing me to control braking force precisely.
Whenever more stopping power is needed, I can apply additional pressure with confidence.
To be honest, I've managed to give quite a few local big bikes a run for their money on this trip! I'll have some videos to show you soon!

11. Headlights and Auxiliary Spotlights
On almost every day of our journey, we end up reaching our destination after dark.
Fortunately, both the main headlights and auxiliary spotlights provide excellent illumination, making the road ahead clearly visible.
Compared with several of the big bikes travelling alongside us, I genuinely feel that the lighting system on the 368G performs better than that of quite a few of them.

Final Thoughts: Halfway to Everest Base Camp
These are the features and advantages I've experienced firsthand during the first half of our journey towards Everest Base Camp.
Having made it this far, I have to say that I'm genuinely impressed with the Zontes 368G.
This isn't a short-term test, nor is it simply a ride around town to see how the bike performs. This is a real-world journey in conditions far more demanding than everyday riding.
We're talking about long distances, extreme altitudes, sub-zero temperatures, badly damaged roads, and luggage that we have to carry throughout the entire journey.
The adventure isn't over yet. We still have several more days ahead, and there is plenty more to put this bike through!
