Ducati
World Ducati Week 2026

New Ducati DesertX V2 Review: Ducati’s New-Generation Adventure Machine
I had the opportunity to ride the New Ducati DesertX V2 in Italy during World Ducati Week 2026, and the difference from the previous generation is immediately noticeable.
The biggest change is the new-generation Ducati V2 engine. Ducati has significantly reduced its weight while maintaining peak power at a level close to the previous engine. More importantly, torque arrives earlier, from around 2,500–3,000 rpm, giving the engine stronger and more responsive low-end performance.
The new V2 also replaces Ducati’s Desmodromic valve system with a conventional spring-valve design.
Although the DesertX V2 may look familiar compared with the 937, the riding experience is substantially different.
The first thing you notice is how light it feels. The engine itself is significantly lighter, while other components have also been redesigned with weight reduction in mind.
This makes a major difference off-road. The New V2 feels noticeably easier to turn and maneuver. The smaller engine dimensions, revised cylinder angle, and new engine positioning allow Ducati to optimize weight distribution and lower the overall sense of mass.
The result is a dramatically different riding character: lighter, more agile, and easier to control, even though the handlebar, seat, and overall riding position remain largely familiar.
Another major improvement is throttle response. It is simply more enjoyable and much easier to control.
The previous 937 engine had a strong character in the mid-to-high RPM range, delivering the raw and exciting feel associated with Ducati’s Desmodromic engine. However, on an off-road motorcycle, I sometimes felt that the power delivery was a little too aggressive.
This is why the Enduro mode on the 937 reduces engine output—to make off-road riding easier and to prevent excessive rear-wheel spin.
With the previous engine delivering stronger power higher in the rev range, the power could arrive quite suddenly, making it easier for the rear wheel to spin or dig into loose terrain.
The New V2 feels different. Because torque arrives much earlier, throttle control is smoother and more predictable.
With the 937, there were situations where first gear could feel slightly too aggressive while second gear felt a little too tall. On the New V2, however, the power delivery feels smooth across the range.
Even in a higher gear at low RPM, opening the throttle allows the motorcycle to accelerate smoothly and naturally. It is simply easier to control.
The electronics have also taken another step forward. With Ducati’s latest electronic platform, the various systems respond in a more refined, precise, and natural manner.
After riding both generations, my overall impression is that the New DesertX V2 represents a significant leap forward in riding feel.
The DesertX 937 could be physically demanding off-road and required a certain level of skill to manage its weight and power. The New V2 feels much more approachable and rider-friendly.
It is lighter, smoother, easier to control—and, most importantly, a lot more fun to ride.
