PG-number ONE

PG-number ONE

-------------------------------------------------

Wrapping up a 2XX-kilometre ride through Kamphaeng Phet with the Yamaha PG-1, part of the PG-number ONE project.

For this build, we fitted the PG-1 with 18-inch wheels from a Yamaha SR400, increased the bore to 66 mm, and extended the stroke by another 5 mm, bringing the engine capacity up to 232cc. The initial dyno result is now an impressive 34 HP, up from the original 8–9 horsepower!

But the truth is, this bike isn't finished yet. I actually had to sneak in a little favour from the master mechanic to let me take it out on this trip first! Hahaha. Once we're back, it'll go straight back into the workshop for more fine-tuning. And if everything comes together as planned, we should be able to squeeze out a little more horsepower.
There were two things about this trip that really surprised me.
The first was how incredibly fun it was to ride a bike weighing just over 100 kg with 34 horsepower. It was an absolute blast!
The second surprise was the potential of the Yamaha PG-1's original platform itself.

Even in standard form, the PG-1 is already a fun motorcycle with a distinctive style of its own. With a starting price of around THB 57,500, it offers so much potential for customisation and further development in a wide variety of directions.

Whether you want to build something stylish, adventure-ready, classic, or even take the engine to another level like this one, the possibilities are really only limited by your imagination.

For anyone who has ever said that this engine platform doesn't offer much room for further development, I'd say it's time to forget those old assumptions.

Because this 232cc setup you see here is still nowhere near its ultimate limit. There's room to go even bigger, as long as the rider can handle it! Hahaha.

After experiencing it on a real ride, I can honestly say that I already have plenty of other ideas running through my head for what I'd like to try with the PG-1.

Another thing I really like about this kind of custom project is that building a bike like this doesn't necessarily have to cost a fortune, as long as you have a clear vision and choose the right setup for your budget.

With a reasonable investment, including the cost of the bike itself, you can create a motorcycle that's not only fun to ride but also reflects your own identity, style, and personality.

For me, the charm of motorcycling has never been about owning the most expensive bike or having the highest horsepower figure.

Sometimes, a small motorcycle that we've built to suit our own vision can deliver a kind of enjoyment and excitement that even a bike costing several times more simply cannot match.

And that's exactly what makes the PG-number ONE project so much fun.

This project isn't finished yet. We'll head back to the workshop, get all the details sorted, and see just how much further this little PG-1 can go!

Because the air at the front of the pack is always fresher.
