- Honda RoadSync
Riding Modes

The New Honda CBR500R FOUR 2027 Is Here! A 500cc Inline-Four Sportbike with Factory-Installed E-Clutch
Honda has officially unveiled the CBR500R FOUR for the European market at EICMA 2026, following its earlier debut in China.
One of the most interesting aspects of this new model is the return of the inline-four engine to the 500cc sportbike segment. This is a significant departure from the familiar CBR500R, which has traditionally been powered by a 471cc parallel-twin engine.
However, the CBR500R FOUR is more than just the existing CBR500R with a new engine. It is built on an entirely different platform, with its own chassis and suspension configuration.

-Maximum torque: 43 Nm → 46.3 Nm
-The new engine is designed to deliver more performance at higher engine speeds.
-A completely different frame and suspension platform.
-Front suspension changes from Showa SFF-BP to KYB.
-Adds Throttle-by-Wire and Riding Modes.
-Honda E-Clutch remains available, but is now fitted as standard on the FOUR.
A Different Engine Character
What interests me most about this model is its engine character.
The previous CBR500R used a parallel-twin engine that focused on strong torque delivery and everyday practicality. However, with the move to an inline-four configuration, featuring a 60 mm bore and a relatively short 44.4 mm stroke, it is clear that Honda is aiming for an engine that can rev significantly higher.
Maximum power arrives at 11,000 rpm, with the redline extending to 12,500 rpm. This should deliver a noticeably different riding experience and engine sound compared with the previous parallel-twin model.
Another interesting feature is the Honda E-Clutch system, which works in conjunction with the Throttle-by-Wire system. It helps manage engine speed during downshifts, making everyday riding more convenient. At the same time, riders can still operate the clutch lever manually, just like on a conventional motorcycle with a manual transmission.
For the UK market, Honda has announced a price of £6,999, with deliveries scheduled to begin in January 2027. As for Thailand, we will have to wait for official confirmation regarding its local launch and pricing.
Personally, I think the CBR500R FOUR is a particularly interesting addition to the market. There are currently relatively few options in the small-displacement inline-four sportbike segment. Honda's development of an entirely new 500cc inline-four engine should make this category even more competitive and certainly worth watching.
