Are Ducati Motorcycles Built in Thailand the Same as Those Built in Italy?

โรงงานที่อิตาลีเป็นโรงงานประวัติศาสตร์ที่มีอายุกว่า 100 ปี แม้โครงสร้างอาคารจะสะท้อนความเก่าแก่ แต่ภายในได้รับการปรับปรุงให้รองรับเครื่องจักรและสายการผลิตที่ทันสมัยอย่างต่อเนื่อง
ขณะที่โรงงานในประเทศไทย ปัจจุบันได้เพิ่มโรงงานแห่งใหม่ที่มีพื้นที่ใหญ่กว่าเดิม ออกแบบผังโรงงานให้รองรับการผลิตยุคใหม่ ทำให้สามารถรองรับกระบวนการผลิตและการผลิตชิ้นส่วนได้มากขึ้น
ในอดีต โรงงานประเทศไทยนำเข้าชิ้นส่วนหลายรายการจากอิตาลีเพื่อประกอบเป็นรถสำเร็จรูป แต่ปัจจุบันมีชิ้นส่วนที่ผลิตในประเทศไทยและส่งกลับไปยังประเทศอิตาลีเพื่อใช้ในการผลิตรถเช่นกัน สะท้อนให้เห็นว่าห่วงโซ่การผลิตของ Ducati ในปัจจุบันเชื่อมโยงกันระหว่างทั้งสองโรงงาน

ดังนั้น หากถามว่า Ducati ที่ผลิตในประเทศไทย กับที่ผลิตในอิตาลี เหมือนกันหรือไม่
จากคำยืนยันของ Claudio Domenicali CEO ของ Ducati ในวันนี้ คำตอบก็คือ
“เหมือนกัน ใช้มาตรฐานการผลิตเดียวกัน และเป็นรถสเปกเดียวกัน”
ส่วนเหตุผลที่รถนำเข้าจากอิตาลีมีราคาสูงกว่าในประเทศไทยนั้น ส่วนสำคัญมาจาก ภาษีนำเข้าและโครงสร้างภาษี ไม่ใช่เพราะคุณภาพหรือมาตรฐานการผลิตแตกต่างกัน

Are Ducati Motorcycles Built in Thailand the Same as Those Built in Italy?

Earlier today, together with the Ducati Asia Pacific team, I had the opportunity to interview Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati.
One question that riders often ask is:
"This bike was assembled in Italy."
"That one was assembled in Thailand, so it must be a different specification."
Mr. Domenicali's answer was clear and straightforward:

"They are the same."
He explained that every Ducati motorcycle is engineered and developed in Italy before production is shared between Ducati's manufacturing facilities in Italy and Thailand.

Today, some components manufactured in Thailand are also supplied to Italy for use in Ducati's global production. As a result, both factories operate under the same production standards, follow the same manufacturing processes, and build motorcycles to the same technical specifications.

Allow me to add some perspective based on my own experience of visiting both Ducati's manufacturing plant in Thailand and the historic factory in Bologna, Italy.

The Bologna factory is over a century old and represents an important part of Ducati's heritage. While the buildings themselves reflect that long history, the production lines inside have been continuously modernized with advanced manufacturing equipment and technologies.

Meanwhile, Ducati's Thailand facility has expanded significantly with a new manufacturing plant that offers a larger production area and a more modern factory layout. The upgraded facility has increased both manufacturing capacity and the ability to produce a wider range of components.

In the past, Ducati Thailand primarily imported components from Italy for final assembly. Today, however, the relationship has evolved. Certain components are now manufactured in Thailand and exported back to Italy for use in Ducati motorcycles built there. This demonstrates how closely integrated Ducati's global manufacturing network has become.

So, are Ducatis built in Thailand the same as those built in Italy?
According to Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati, the answer is unequivocal:

"Yes. They are built to the same production standards and the same specifications."

The reason motorcycles imported from Italy are typically more expensive in Thailand is not because they are built to a higher standard or offer superior quality. Rather, the price difference is largely the result of import duties, taxes, and local tax structures.

Ultimately, regardless of whether a Ducati is assembled in Italy or Thailand, it is manufactured according to the same engineering principles, the same quality standards, and the same product specifications that define every Ducati motorcycle.
